Serum levels and urinary excretion of amino acids in preadolescent girls on two levels of protein intake.

The effects of tryptophan loads in twenty-one alcoholic subjects were studied and the results correlated with plasma pyridoxal-5-phosphate concentrations. Pyridoxal-5-phosphate concentrations were found to be less than 40 per cent of normal in three and more than 40 per cent of normal in the remaining eighteen. However, metabolite excretion in nine of the latter was subnormal. Possible explanations for these findings are discussed.
